What's happening in Venezuela
The most serious impact has been reported in La Guaira and the Greater Caracas area - two of Venezuela’s biggest and most densely populated cities. Since then, aftershocks from the quakes have continued to hamper rescue attempts.
Millions of people have been affected, with more than two million in the worst impacted areas. Importantly, thousands more are reported missing, which means that rescuers are still racing to find survivors trapped in collapsed buildings.
While the full scale of the disaster is still emerging, we know that families urgently need shelter, food, water and medical care.
Please donate what you can today.
Venezuela is still hurting. The pain keeps building, growing even deeper with two powerful earthquakes that have torn through populated areas, leaving widespread damage to homes, buildings, businesses and social services, damage whose full extent is still unknown, but clearly immense. Solidarity rises in the face of human suffering. Christian Aid, in partnership with faith-based networks directly present in Venezuela, is working to bring a tangible solidarity - one that nourishes hope as an act of resistance against a tragedy powerful enough to break it.
How Christian Aid is responding
We’re releasing emergency funds to our network of trusted local partners active in the epicentre of Caracas and La Guaira.
Our partners are on the ground, providing emergency medical treatment, delivering meals and food baskets and ensuring people have access to clean drinking water. They’re well-placed to deliver life-saving essentials, health kits to treat basic injuries and shelter to some of the worst-hit communities in some of the poorest neighbourhoods.
Donate and help us stand by them in the coming days, weeks and months.
Prayer for the people of Venezuela
When the earth trembles and homes fall to dust, hold our hearts, God.
When the aftershocks come and fear takes hold, hold our hearts, God.
When grief shakes families to the core, hold our hearts, God.
Send our hands and feet to help however we can.
Our sisters and brothers in Venezuela live this now.
God of love and mercy, may we match your love in the way we respond - now.
