On Wednesday 26th August, devastating flash floods swept through communities on the Nepal–Tibet border, leaving a trail of unimaginable loss and heartbreak.
At least 1,300 people have lost their lives, with more than 5,300 still missing. Homes have been destroyed, roads submerged and bridges swept away, leaving communities cut off and families desperately searching for those they love.
In the face of such devastation, we are called to stand together. As Christians, we believe every life is precious and that, when our neighbours are suffering, we cannot look away. Through compassion, prayer and action, we can bring hope to people facing their darkest days.

What’s happening in Nepal and Tibet?
Flash floods have devastated communities along the Nepal-Tibet border. Entire areas have been cut off. Travel has been brought to a halt in parts of the country.
The US Geological Survey says 'glacial collapse and debris flow' triggered the floods. With debris blocking rivers, there are fears more floods could follow.
Rescue and evacuation operations are underway. The Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and international teams are searching for survivors. Helicopters are trying to reach communities cut off by the disaster.
More than 5,300 people are missing, including workers, tourists and pilgrims. Families urgently need clean water, food, shelter and medical care.

How Christian Aid is responding to the floods
